Kasumigaseki Building

Kasumigaseki Building, Japan’s first skyscraper, in March 1967 before its completion the following year. The building became a pioneer in earthquake-resistant design with flexible structures. It opened April 12, 1968, and its 36-strory observation deck became an instant hit. On the upper left and right are Diet Building and the Imperial Palace’s new palace.

Kasumigaseki Building today. As part of redevelopment in the area, Kasumigaseki Common Gate, West Tower (left) and East Tower have been built, dwarfing Kasumigaseki Building. Just on the right of the East Tower is the former Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology building.
