Shinjuku Subcenter

The Yodobashi plant’s operation was shifted to Higashimurayama Filtration Plant and ceased at the end of March in 1971. A plan to build Shinjuku Subcenter on the premises was drawn up. The Keio Plaza Hotel opened in June 1971 and other tall buildings such as Shinjuku Sumitomo Building, KDD Building (now KDDI Building) and Shinjuku Mitsui Building were built. And Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building was completed at the end of 1990, creating rows of skyscrapers. Shinjuku Park Tower was built on the former gas tank site.
