東京ベイエリア - Tokyo Bay

  1967(昭和42)年3月14日、多数の貨物船が芝浦沖に停泊する東京港。後方には上棟目前の霞が関ビル(中央)と左に東京タワーが見える。ほかに高い建物は無かった。右奥は隅田川河口で、その左手の緑地帯は浜離宮庭園。左端近くに田町のガスタンクが見える。
約半世紀後、東京港上空から見る首都東京の姿。20階以上の高層ビルは約600棟あるとも言われ、内陸側だけでなくベイエリアにも超高層ビルが立ち並び、一大変貌を遂げた21世紀の都市景観が広がる。
  中央右は汐留、その右へ浜離宮庭園と築地、その後方は丸の内、八重洲、日本橋。右端の2棟の高層ビルは勝どき6丁目の超高層マンション「ザ・トーキョー・タワーズ」。中央左の焦げ茶色のビルは浜松町の世界貿易センタービル、その右奥に池袋のサンシャイン60。左手に東京タワー、東京ミッドタウン、その左奥に都庁など新宿副都心、左端に六本木ヒルズが見える。

Scores of skyscrapers now dot not only inland but also bay areas. Shown here is an urban landscape of the 21st century that has gone through a sea change. Shiodome district is in middle on the right. On its right side are Hamarikyu Garden and Tsukiji district; behind them are Marunouchi, Yaesu and Nihombashi districts. Two skyscrapers on the extreme right are the high-end condominium complex Tokyo Towers. The dark brown-colored World Trade Center Building in Hamamatsucho is in middle on the left, Sunshine 60 building in Ikebukuro is in the back right corner, Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Midtown are on the left, Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and Shinjuku Subcenter on the extreme back left, and Roppongi Hills on the far left.
